IMPERFECTION

Today's a new day, and with every new day comes new opportunities. To seize

an opportunity is living life whether it turns out for good or bad is all part of

living and being fail able. The fact that no one knows everything is a fact only

talked about as being accepted worldwide, meanwhile everyone does in fact

believe that they know best. Being able to accept the consequences of our

actions, good or bad, defines a person's character. Being able to learn from

mistakes made is truly a growth to one's personal make up of who they are

and yet applying what is learned is usually a step overlooked and for those

who actually do put the knowledge they've obtained into action, there are no

limits. To put yourself into a pattern of self-correction would ultimately lead to

a pretty well rounded & open minded individual willing and able to take

criticism to better ones self. Perfection is unachievable, an impossible goal

only a fool would even attempt to obtain, but pain is avoidable and the

infliction of pain can be a conscious decision to inflict or avoid. Using an open

mind and allowing information to penetrate into the brain instead of getting

lost in the ear would eliminate most pain inflicted. Assumptions hurt on their

own account, assuming you know how someone feels goes back to the very

beginning as to thinking you know what's best, the truth is one does not know

what's best for them because no one thinks five steps ahead about the

decisions they make and the butterfly affect it will have on anyone they come

in contact with. To truly make yourself better you need to communicate,

communication is the most important tool a human being possesses. In fact

humans are the only creature on the planet with this skill so why is it we do

not use this invaluable gifting as often as possible. I'm personally tired of

hurting the ones I care about more than anything in this world and I will put

these writings into practice and not just leave it ask ink on paper. I will

continue to try and better myself and move forward in life otherwise I'm just

standing still or worse moving backwards and I would hate to die two feet

from where I was born. Life is entirely too short to not do anything with it.

Mistakes are made but fortunately they are not set in stone and correctable.

Forgiveness is critical in a happy life; grudges only add weight to shoulders

already burdened by just a simple life. Being perfect is impossible, to try is

foolish, so I'll settle for an open mind that learns and applies knowledge

gained from mistakes made and the ability to forgive and to love.

There's only one life to live give all you have to give.

Explanation

I wrote "Imperfection" while I was in AIT, Fort Gordon Georgia. I was awaiting graduation, just a few short months away. I already knew where I was going and what was going to happen once I got there. 101st Airborne Division and straight to Iraq. I had been without my wife and 2 daughters for about 6 months at this point and there was hardship brewing in my marriage. I felt completely helpless as I had signed over ever right I had to our nation. I did not know what to do and this writing represents more than just my views on perfection or a glimpse into my mentality, but it is also when I discovered the outlet that writing could be for me. The promises and beliefs I made that day I still believe in today, regardless of the losses I have suffered.
